Shop Grand Opening! and Apron Pattern Review

Happy August, sewing friends!
Today marks the grand opening of my Etsy shop,
Can you see how excited my model is?

I have an apron to share with you all
This one is the Vera apron by Penny Sturges of Quilts Illustrated
It came together rather quickly
and there are some clever steps to attach those two pockets
without making them "patch" pockets
Fabric:  Veranda by Brenda Walton

The skirt pocket is sewn into the seams
and the bib pocket is sewn into the waist seam
I used my Bernina ruffler attachment to make those great pleat details
The bib features a feminine sweetheart neckline
and the reverse side is fully lined.
If you're looking for a polished apron, this pattern just might be the one.
The pattern and completed apron are both available in my shop.

Do you wear aprons?
I almost always wear one when I am cooking.
I do want to protect my clothing,
but the apron puts me in the cooking mind set
and makes me a better cook
(okay, that's a stretch).

I'm truly glad you stopped in today, friends.
I love to hear from you, so please pause to say hello in the comment section.

Sailing into Mid Summer and a Business Announcement

Hi sewing friends!
Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit
as you enter my front door, this is what greets you (besides me) . . .
a sweet, summer, sailboat, in-the-hoop Kimberbell project
here are a few pointers if you plan to embroider your own summer sailboat:
  • be prepared to spend some time on this one, it is not labor or stitch intensive, it just requires you to remove the hoop from the machine and trim fabric and/or press a number of times
  • the instructions include 82 steps!
  • it doesn't require much fabric, I used scraps from my stash
Now for my announcement -
I'm a new business owner!!!
Yep, my Etsy shop front will open August 1 under the name ANotion2Sew
I've been ever so busy sewing up inventory to stock my shop
I will sell handmade, high-quality home and fashion accessories
along with the patterns and hardware for DIYers
who wish to stitch up their own accessories
And just in time for the Fall season, I have several season-appropriate items
that will be up for sale - all lovingly handmade with care in my home studio

As we sail into August, check back here for the link to ANotion2Sew
- or -
just stop by to say hello, I love visitors

If you are an Etsy seller, please share your words of wisdom

Thanks for keeping me company today.

A Notion Bag for a Martha Pullen Teacher Licensing Event

Happy July, sewing friends!
I've been a busy little worker sewing up inventory for
my Etsy shop that will open on August 1 (more on that later)
So I decided to take a break and make something for myself
It's the #SewTogetherBag by Sew Demented
I'm heading to Federicksburg, VA in late September to attend the
Martha Pullen Teacher Licensing Express Serger III course, and
I needed a cute bag to house my sewing notions, so I decided to give
the #SewTogetherBag a go
There is lots and lots of storage in this compact bag:
3 inside zipper pockets and 4 open compartments
The zipper pockets are all lined with striped fabric
there's also a little, puffy, pin cushion
and . . .
a needle landing in pink and green wool felt
Instead of the standard 18" zipper closure,
I used a 24" purse zipper (available in my Etsy shop in August)
The purse zippers have a wider tape on either side of the zip,
which makes them easier to insert in a bag
and they are also stronger than standard size zips
I used my Lori Holt Bloom templates to add some applique to the front of the bag
and the fabric is Welcome Home by Jennifer Bosworth of Shabby Fabrics

Are any of you heading to the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo in Fredericksburg this year?
Send me an email or comment on this post - I would enjoy meeting you in person

Happy sewing, my friends!
