Pint-Sized Crochet Cape for A Pint-Sized Girl

Can I just say how much fun it is to crochet cute little things for cute little people!

Okay, I'm a bit smitten with my grandchildren.

This cape is from the Winter 2013 issue of Love of Crochet magazine (pg. 81).

I love that the neckline is ruffled.

The fit can be adjusted with the drawstring.

 

 

A button just below the ruffled neckline

adds additional security to prevent slippage off the shoulders.

 

 

The yarn is Martha Stewart Extra Soft Wool Blend in gerbera daisy.

The magazine version is done up in garnet red with a matching hat for Christmas.

I chose to crochet a spring version.

After all, most spring dresses for little girls feature short sleeves or no sleeves.

It's chilly in Utah in the spring.

Need I say more?

 

 

 

The icing on the cake (that truly is what it looks like)

is the white trim that is worked on the front loops of three rows.

In looking at the magazine photo, there are four rows of trim.

The pattern calls for three rows.

I like it best with three rows.

The pattern sizing is child 2-3 years.

My granddaughter is 3 (almost 4) and it fits beautifully.

She giggles as she twirls to show off her new cape.

Welcome Spring

Using a Favorite to Teach a Friend

Yes, it's yet another charm pack table runner.

 

 

You're probably tired of seeing this pattern by now,

but c'mon,

look at those gorgeous spring colors

(Printemps by 3 Sisters for Moda).

 

 

 

Plus, this is the perfect beginner project.

 

Since it uses a charm pack, there's no cutting.

You can just get right down to the fun - the sewing!

 

And when your friend asks you to teach her to sew

you immediately suggest your 'go-to' table runner.

 

 

 

The quilting can be as simple or as intricate as you wish . . .

 

 

 

and it's always easier to see from the batting side,

 

 

 

before the back is sewn on.

My friend, Deanna, also loves her new table runner.

 

Now go, teach somebody to sew.

You will both be blessed.

 

 

 



Spring Banner

A pre-printed fabric panel can bring immediate gratification.

 

 

 

Add a few hot fix crystals,

 

 

some standard machine designs,

 

a little free-motion quilting,

 

 stitch all those fussy-cut panels onto some giant ric-rac,

 

 

and finish off the ends with fabric and yarn scraps along with fabric flowers

and in a very short amount of time you have a super cute spring banner.

 

The first day of spring is this Thursday, March 20.

A Simple Cotton Blouse

I had this great, lightweight 100% cotton fabric in my stash.

I needed a basic every day blouse to wear with jeans or casual pants.

The pattern is from an old BurdaStyle magazine (8-2008-103).

I also wanted to give my new binder attachment another whirl.

Yay!  No hemming on the sleeves.

The binder attachment worked beautifully.

It's always good to have simple blouses that can be layered in the winter

and worn simply without layers the rest of the year.

Sometimes I need simple in my life.   :)
