Leggings - A Wardrobe Staple

Hello Sewing Friends!

I'm a true legging lover

they are comfortable and

they can be worn in numerous ways

Dress them up with a stylish topper and heels

wear them under a dress or skirt

for added warmth in the winter with boots

for a simple pulled-together look in the summer with sandals

You can make them full length,

cropped,

or bermuda length

Use a ball point double needle or a serger

to achieve the ready-to-wear hem look

and use a ball point (stretch) needle for your seams so they don't 'pop'

no extra equipment required

I'm teaching a legging class on March 2 from 1-5 p.m.

at Nuttall's in Layton

A Little Tote for a Little Iron

Here's a quick and stylish way of transporting your travel iron

the Travel Iron Tote & Ironing Pad Pattern for Mini Irons by Sisters' Common Thread

is what we used in the class I taught last weekend

if you missed this one,

don't fret,

our next class date is:  Thursday, March 31 from 5-9 p.m. at Nuttall's in Layton

The inside of the tote is heat resistant fabric (included with the pattern)

how great is that for setting up your own personal ironing station

when you take sewing classes or when you travel?

It's also ingenious in that it allows you to pack up your hot iron

and transport it when you're finished with class

                    

without having to wait for your iron to cool

There is lots of measuring and marking with this pattern,

but I've come up with a handy template for us to use during class

that makes the process so much more efficient

Once the rectangular layers are stitched together,

a line is drawn and stitched and trimmed across each corner

resulting in the eight-sided origami-style tote

Binder clips work perfectly to keep the elastic closure loops in place

while stitching the binding around the edge

The handles are attached after all the other sewing is complete

I carry the SteamFast Home & Away Steam Iron in my tote

Valentine Pillow

lately I've been smitten by the sweet KimberBell designs

this pillow is featured in Oh, the Possibilities...For Winter! (and Valentine's Day, too!)

if you're looking for quick projects that also have a bit of detail,

give this one a go

it can be completed in a couple short hours

and if you like applique, this one is for you

I used Floriani applique wonder to back my letters and hearts
that makes them stay in place nicely while I get them stitched down
the applique wonder is a bit heavy, however
so if you plan to applique a project that needs to have a softer 'hand'
choose a wash-away spray adhesive or a light wonder under product

to stabilize the main fabric behind the the applique,

I ironed on some no-show mesh

it is much more fluid than a traditional stabilizer so my pillow stays soft

you could always choose to hand stitch the applique

but I used a few of the stitches on my sewing machine

no zipper or opening in the back

this one is just stitched to the front, rst, with an opening left for turning

I stuffed it with poly fiberfill and hand stitched the opening closed

I've enjoyed our visit
